Suurbritannia ülikoolid on taaskord streigilainel. UK ülikoolid on maailma parimate hulgas ja õpe on tasuline. Vaatamata sellele on probleemid sarnased Eesti kõrgharidussektori omadele.

  • When are the strikes – and where?
The first week of this wave of action takes place at 44 institutions for five days, from 14 to 18 February, and is over pensions.
  • In the second week there is a two-day walkout – 21 and 22 February – over pensions, pay and working conditions, at 68 institutions.
  • Week three involves 63 institutions over three days from 28 February to 2 March.
  • The final day will coincide with a student strike, organised by the National Union of Students.

Why are university staff striking?
Some are striking over pay and conditions, others over pensions – but for most taking action, it is over both.

On pay, the University and College Union (UCU), which represents staff at institutions across the UK, has demanded:

  • a £2,500 pay increase for members
  • an end to “pay injustice” and zero-hours contracts
  • action to tackle “unmanageable workloads” (BBC)

Konflikt on muutunud õige teravaks (ja inetuks), mida näitavad tööandjate esindajate väljaütlemised:

There was anger among university staff last week when it emerged that the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) recommended that universities should dock 100% of pay for staff who work to rule as part of the forthcoming industrial action. (The Guardian)

Streigilaine on jätkuks 2021 detsembris toimunud streigile (58 ülikooli, kellega liitus veel 10; loe lähemalt BBC lehel) ja on osa 2018. aastal alanud streikide lainest (Wikipedia).
